A day with Carol Doak

a day with carol doak 2
I was lucky enough to spend a day with Carol Doak. It was an amazing experience in my needlework journey to meet an expert in “paper piecing”..
I was amazed to see the perfect points achieved by sewing on the paper lines….
I really loved the way she explained how to organise the work and how to handle all the tiny pieces of fabric. i should have taken a snap of my work table, to show you how i labelled the pieces and arranged it the way she taught us..
During the class time…we were all busy with our work…and didn’t get a minute to hangout…
Workshop was the part of  the International Quilt show Dubai…
we learned to use Add a Quarter ruler using her postcard…
add a quarter ruler
I’m glad that i could finish of the block by the end of the session and could take a snap along with her…
Later I quilted it and finished into a square piece which can be used as a table topper…

…now it is displayed on my sewing space wall…

Please do visit Carol Doak’s blog  to see more pictures of the workshop, and her experience in middle east.
There is an active yahoo group with her patterns and techniques…and you can easily get in touch with her thru her facebook page..
Thank you so much for stopping by with your lovely comment…
Until next time….
Have a nice day….nima

  1. Sounds like you had great fun. You are so multi-talented Nima. Loved your hardanger piece as well.
Your quilted finish looks bright and beautiful. Notice the white cover with red flowers (are they poppies). Did you make that as well? Very pretty

  10. Your block turned out just beautiful. I use Carol's add a quarter with a postcard technique too. Saw her on a quilting video before I tried it & love how easy it is to do. Your border fabric works especially well.
